The purpose of this contest is to discover a seventh grade  teacher  that  stimulates  a student’s interest in the early history of Texas using creative ideas or manipulatives. Winning participants have the experience to win at three (3) different  levels.  

  • First (1st), a winner will be selected by the Sponsoring Chapter and will receive recognition from that DRT Chapter.  
  • Second (2nd), the Chapter will submit their winner to be judged on a District  Level. The District Representative will then submit that to the Fifth Vice President General. Our Association is divided into ten (10) districts, each  District submitting one winner.  
  • Third (3rd), the Education and Flag Committee with the guidance of the Fifth  Vice President General will select one state winner.

The winning seventh grade outstanding teacher will be invited to attend the Daughters of the Republic of Texas Historical Evening, May 2009 in Killeen. The winner will be asked to share his/her ideas on techniques with teaching Texas history at the  Historical Evening event. The winner will receive $700, a plaque, and dinner for two (2) at this event.
